Brief Jobless, penniless, and, above all, hopeless, the unmotivated patriarch, Ki-taek, and his equally unambitious family--his supportive wife, Chung-sook; his cynical twentysomething daughter, Ki-jung, and his college-age son, Ki-woo--occupy themselves by working for peanuts in their squalid basement-level apartment. LOL WHY WAS I LOOKING AT THE SUBTITLE THE ENTIRE TIME WATCHING THIS LMAO IM LITERALLY KOREAN AND UNDERSTAND 100%??. I thought it was gonna be about the wifi. I mean they talked about it for a good few seconds. Just won an Oscar definitely deserving of it. Some things I noticed/learned about the move. Spoiler alert First: Someone commented how unrealistic that the rich family never noticed the sliding door (with metal track on floor visible) that reveals the path down. And the rich couple don"t notice the people hiding under the table. The rich couple don"t notice things under them, because they don"t look down. Consciously and unconsciously, they don"t look down. They don"t want to see/know/interact with what"s under them, because it makes them uncomfortable, vulnerable, etc. That"s a line the rich couple don"t want to cross down. But the poor are always looking up. The poor family looking out the widow from the semibasement home. Looking up the steep path/stairs going up as they head to the rich family"s home. Second: Also, the large window in the rich family"s living room has the ratio of 21:9. When the rich look out from the living room, what they want to see OR inevitably see is entertainment. Like seen through a wide aspect screen. So many layers and layers of meanings in all the scenes.

The day I watched this movie, when I went to the cinema, I actually didn"t mean to watch this movie, I forgot what movie I initially wanted to watch Then I saw the poster of this movie and I thought Hmmm. Parasite. maybe it"s a movie about alien or something strange lives inside human body I usually browse the internet to know more about any movie I want to watch, but then I didnt, I was so sure it"s a movie about alien or such things and perhaps that was one of the best unintentional decisions I"ve ever made. Ive never felt this way since watching the bts short films. Yall get pissed you have to read subtitles and its so dumb. When Korean people, and the rest of the world (me included) watch me American movies as kids we have to read subtitles too. Most of the world have to read your subtitles, you should read theirs.

1:27 Lmao u can slowly see the dad coming down from the escalator. Me after watching this movie: RESPECT. The cinematography is unreal. its like Im really there entering people rich home and wandering and dreaming to live there. its also very dejavu for some point. i dont know. that maybe because when were a child we also have a wonderstruck to live on our rich friend house, and thats why I feel nostalgic and relate a lot to the poor family. its beautiful. Best dialogue in this movie is, can you do clockwise. Through the rollercoaster of emotions this movie puts us through, theres only one feeling left by the time the movie is over, Sadness. I recommend this movie to everyone/anyone. Truly amazing in every way. the messages throughout the film really hit home. 10/10.

 

Well, after i watch this masterpiece i always like wait, did i just watch a movie, not a short movie. The slow motion, the editing, the cinematography and most of all THE MUSIC. everything is perfect! I cant stop watching this scene. So much deserved all the awards won at the Oscars. One of the best movies Ive ever seen! My compliments from Italy!????. Mr Bong saying ACTUALLY a 1000 times is so endearing ??. Whos here after Parasite won best picture? ??. The best movie. Edit:2020 Oscars. I absolutely loved this film. But we randomly watched this as a family film and the second half came and everyone shat themselves. Like damn that part was pretty traumatising.

It"s like poetry, it rhymes. Can we talk about how incredible this movie was.

Story: The Kims - mother and father Chung-sook and Ki-taek, and their young adult offspring, son Ki-woo and daughter Ki-jung - are a poor family living in a shabby and cramped half basement apartment in a busy lower working class commercial district of Seoul. Without even knowing it, they, especially Mr. and Mrs. Kim, literally smell of poverty. Often as a collective, they perpetrate minor scams to get by, and even when they have jobs, they do the minimum work required. Ki-woo is the one who has dreams of getting out of poverty by one day going to university. Despite not having that university education, Ki-woo is chosen by his university student friend Min, who is leaving to go to school, to take over his tutoring job to Park Da-hye, who Min plans to date once he returns to Seoul and she herself is in university. The Parks are a wealthy family who for four years have lived in their modernistic house designed by and the former residence of famed architect Namgoong. While Mr. and Mrs. Park are all about status, Mrs. Park has a flighty, simpleminded mentality and temperament, which Min tells Ki-woo to feel comfortable in lying to her about his education to get the job. In getting the job, Ki-woo further learns that Mrs. Park is looking for an art therapist for the Parks" adolescent son, Da-song, Ki-woo quickly recommending his professional art therapist friend "Jessica", really Ki-jung who he knows can pull off the scam in being the easiest liar of the four Kims. In Ki-woo also falling for Da-hye, he begins to envision himself in that house, and thus the Kims as a collective start a plan for all the Kims, like Ki-jung using assumed names, to replace existing servants in the Parks" employ in orchestrating reasons for them to be fired. The most difficult to get rid of may be Moon-gwang, the Parks" housekeeper who literally came with the house - she Namgoong"s housekeeper when he lived there - and thus knows all the little nooks and crannies of it better than the Parks themselves. From smart comedy to a violent drama in the best way I ever seen, from now on I will start taking Korean movies as serious as I ever did before, there is no way you gonna hate this peace of art. I have seen two films previously from the director of this film, Bong Joon Ho. Those being Okja and The Host. I like them both quite a bit. I think however, that Parasite is the best film I have seen from him. Don"t judge this movie on the US trailers, I felt they did a really bad job marketing the film, they made it look really pretentious. In reality, the actual movie isn"t anything like that trailer. This is a dark, funny, insane, crazy, and thought provoking film.

I won"t get too much into the plot as I feel it"s something you should experience for yourself but the film centers around this poor family, the Kims, who try and take advantage of a rich family, the Parks. Things get complicated from there.
The acting in this movie is phenomenal, everyone here gives their A game. The directing by Bong Joon Ho is simply masterful. The screenplay is smart, creative, darkly funny like a Coen Bros movie (it reminded me a lot of Fargo especially) and is pure insanity at points. The film doesn"t take sides on either family, they both do pretty bad things but at the same time, you surprisingly care about them, despite how flawed both of them are. The halfway point and the climax are some of the craziest moments I have seen all year. The movie also does a great job tackling the issues between classes in Korea.
The cinematography is beautiful, especially those big wide shots of environments. The editing is exquisite, no scene goes on for too long, they make every second of this film matter, and I never felt bored by the film, the 2 hour and 12 minute runtime flew by for me. The music is also pretty good as well.

Overall, Parasite is one film you absolutely must see this year. It has great performances, amazing direction, one of the best screenplays of the year, and it keeps you guessing what will happen next. Go into this movie as blind as you can, the less you know, the better.
